About me

Heeju Kim is a contemporary artist based in Seoul, South Korea. Drawing inspiration from the vivid memories of her childhood, she captures the innocent gaze and pure wonder of youth on canvas. Her work is a heartfelt journey to rediscover the emotional warmth and sincere excitement that often fade with time.

Kim’s paintings are characterized by their dense layers of color and tactile, physical textures. She breathes life into her subjects—ranging from the evocative floral series inspired by New Zealand gardens to the serene landscapes of memory—by building up rich, textured surfaces that emphasize the vitality of the moment.

Currently a PhD candidate at Hongik University, where she also earned her BFA and MFA, Kim holds a Master of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her academic and professional journey is deeply rooted in a mastery of materials, transitioning seamlessly between oil pastels and oil paints to achieve a unique sense of depth and energy.

Kim has showcased her work in various prestigious settings, including the Saatchi Gallery in London. Her professional practice extends from solo exhibitions in Seoul to live painting demonstrations, continuously exploring the intersection of memory, nature, and the enduring spirit of childhood.
