About me

Heeju Kim is a contemporary artist based in Seoul, South Korea. At the core of her practice is the concept of agape—an unconditional love that fully accepts and embraces existence as it is. Drawing inspiration from the pure experiences and warm memories of her childhood, Kim explores the fundamental essence of love beyond the boundaries of religion and human distinctions, capturing a sense of wonder and bright warmth on canvas.

Kim’s work is characterized by dynamic layers of color that gracefully build from subtle depth into vibrant light, alongside rich, tactile textures. Moving beyond darkness toward an even brighter light, her fluid and energy-filled compositions breathe vitality into her subjects. Seamlessly transitioning between oil pastels and oil paints, she leverages the unique qualities of her mediums to create a distinct sense of depth and positive energy.

Currently a PhD candidate at Hongik University, where she also earned her BFA and MFA, Kim holds a Master of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her artistic practice, rooted in a deep understanding and exploration of materials, aims to evoke the cherished moments of love dormant within each viewer's memory and translate them into a source of vitality for life.

Kim has showcased her work in various prestigious settings, including the Saatchi Gallery in London and solo exhibitions in Seoul, as well as through live painting demonstrations. Continuously exploring the intersection of memory, nature, and the enduring spirit of love originating in childhood, she seeks to offer audiences gentle comfort, hope, and lasting warmth.
